| "Life AFTER the Down Low" by Ingrid Michelle “The down low” is a coined phrase within the Black community referring to men living double lives as homosexuals. Most have categorized them as a, “down low brotha,” “Black men on the down low,” and “men on the DL.” Although this ascription feels incredulous and sensationalized to many, this secret double lifestyle of hidden homosexuality is an epidemic that has become pandemic in our society. AIDS is running ramped and the victims are unsuspecting women who believe they are in a monogamous relationship with a man that loves them. The emotional abuse is devastating to say the least and the uphill battle toward healing is indescribable. “Life AFTER the Down Low” addresses the healing journey of a woman who experienced spousal emotional abuse in ways that many have said SHOULD have put her behind bars or at the very least, a strait jacket. Not only did she discover that her then husband was a homosexual but to also find that he was being accused of molestation was the ultimate shocker. Child abusers come in many forms and one would never suspect their spouse of being one. Starting from scratch has been anything but easy but with her faith in God, Ingrid Michelle has managed to press toward the mark of the high calling. |
